🧠 Initial Ideas

Sunrise Coffee approached me with a vision to open a calming, minimalist coffee and bakery space with subtle Japanese influence. The brief was to create a brand that felt modern yet timeless — a peaceful retreat from the everyday bustle. The inspiration drew heavily from Japanese aesthetics: clean lines, natural textures, and a quiet sense of balance.

My early concepts explored sunrise motifs, zen-like geometry, and subtle references to traditional Japanese design (like washi paper textures and soft neutral tones). We landed on a look that balances soft warmth with intentional simplicity — something that feels both local and transportive.

• Blending Cultures: Merging traditional Japanese inspiration with modern British café culture without it feeling forced or inauthentic.

• Multi-Platform Consistency: Ensuring the brand identity translated seamlessly from signage to social, menus to merchandise.

• Local Differentiation: Warwick has a growing independent coffee scene, so the brand had to stand out while still feeling grounded in the community.

The result is a distinctive and refined brand identity that evokes the calm of a sunrise and the intentionality of Japanese craftsmanship. The hand-drawn logo nods to a rising sun without being literal, paired with a clean typeface and a warm neutral palette.
